We had a great first week of quarter 3 and learned a lot even though we only had 3 days!

Important Dates:
Quarter 3 Goals:
Reading: Complete your AR goal- check AR to find your goal for Q3- to pass an AR quiz, you must receive 80% or higher
Math: Pass xtra math this quarter (multiplication and division). Work at least 20-30 minutes a week on Freckle base 10 and fractions.
Behavior: Make good choices and make it to fun Friday!
Reading:
Important: Students need to be reading each night for at least 20 minutes. Goal: 100+minutes of reading from a book of their choice. They then need to fill out the reading log (on google slides) for the week. The reading log is due each Friday morning. This can be located on their Canvas homeroom page under assignments. All students know how to find this.
- We will begin a new read aloud. It is called Tuck Everlasting. It is a fantasy story and the students always enjoy it.
- We will study vocabulary, talk about story themes, character traits, comprehension, and story plot.
- Students will do classroom assignments over the story.
- We are reading the Storyworks article, “Are These Chips Too Delicious”. We will be comparing and contrasting with a second article, working with text features, learning new vocabulary, and practicing story comprehension.
Homework: Students will log 100 minutes per week on their reading log, complete 4 different reading strategies on the google slide and submit through canvas. This is due on January 15 .
Grammar:
- We will continue to study parts of speech.

Homework: Students may have to complete DL if they don’t finish it in class. This is due each Friday.
Writing:
- Journal entry: found on Canvas assignments- submitted by Friday on canvas
- Prompt : persuasive: Should W.W. wear a school uniform?
- Our main unit for Q3: opinion/persuasive writing
- Journals- each week students will complete a journal that will be an opinion piece. They are to submit it on canvas by Friday.
- 2 main writing pieces in Q3:
- 1st: persuasive piece of their choice
- We will use the writing process and learn about what it means to persuade someone to do something
- 2nd: creating a commercial with a partner
- This is a great way for them to see how persuasive writing is used in the real world.

Homework: Students have to complete their journal and submit it on canvas each Friday.

- math muscle– we will do this in class this week so that students understand how to complete it correctly.
- math review- this is a worksheet with problems on it that reviews everything we have learned this year in math
- math quiz- we will take a quiz each Friday over the skills we learned for the week. If students can do the math review, they will do well on the quiz. The math review acts as a study guide for the quiz.
Science:
- We will be creating our own jet toys in class
- Students will work in small groups and create cars using Newton’s Theories of Gravity
- Social Studies
- We will continue Chapter 4: Reconstruction
- Students will read and complete activities in class about the Reconstruction
